I was in the supermarket this week and a lady stopped me and said 'oh your arms are amazing! I could never have arms like that. Do you do keto?'
I thought I'd share because knowledge is power and this situation is no different.
A true ketogenic diet is very challenging to stick to. In fact a great majority of those professing their love of a keto diet may actually be confusing it with a low carbohydrate diet.
A true Keto diet is no more than 20 grams of carbohydrate each day. For perspective, let’s say you have one cup of broccoli with your chicken for lunch. If you happen to have 2 pieces of sugar-free gum and one glass of a sugar free soft-drink then you’ll be over your 20 grams of carbohydrate for the day!
It has been my experience that people find these high fat diets “fun”, at least for a little while.
I mean, who wouldn’t be excited about eating all of the high fat generally forbidden foods- butter, cheese, mayonnaise, and oils. And let’s be honest, the only reason this appeals is because it is fun, right?
The number on the scales will go down for a short while, due to weight loss from depletion of muscle and liver glycogen.
Each gram of glycogen (carbohydrate) carries with it 3 grams of water.
You jump for joy thinking you have lost weight, but all you have lost is glycogen and water!
As soon as you have carbohydrates again, muscle glycogen is replenished. So the number on the scales goes back up and the yo-yo dieting continues.
The truth is, I don't know why anyone would want to go through life avoiding carbohydrates, when you don't have to.
I don't understand why anyone would want to go through life counting calories, or macros to try justify where a glass of wine fits in.
The irony is, when you eat from my Cookbook, you remain in complete control of your intake without having to avoid a carb or count a single calorie.
Life is so short to spend it battling food!
